Culturally Appropriate Health Education

Culturally Appropriate Health Education
Cultural factors have great influence in the health behaviors of individuals in a target population. In the recent decades, social epidemiologists and scientists have turned their attention towards the increased range of social factors that are causing a significance impact on individual’s health. The issues include gender, sex roles, poverty, social networks, social support, race, and ethnicity, among others (Center for Disease Control n.d.). The scientists also studied the characteristics of the social environment that posed great threats to the health of individuals in the society.
Random assessments show that the major factors that contribute to these changes in the health behavior of individuals are gender, sex roles, poverty, social networks, social support, race, and ethnicity. Men are stronger compared to the women in the society. This makes the rates of women affected by health issues higher compared to those of men. The increase in poverty is characterized by water, health, and air pollution leading to diseases that have the negative impact on the health of individuals. Research also shows that regions that have accessibility to social networks are a great threat due to negative internet effects. Regions, where individuals are socially supportive, have positive changing health patterns since community members assist each other in maintaining a healthy living style.
Education interventions are therefore very necessary to ensure that the community is educated on maintaining positive, healthy living styles. In the current society, education is gauged depending on individual credentials. Research has proved that education and health has a positive and close relationship as it is has been observed by most psychologists in the American society.
Cultural competence r4efers to a set of notable behaviors, policies, and attitudes that come with a system, professional, or agency to enable them to work efficiently across all social-cultural situations (Consumer Health Coalition, n.d). All these behaviors include an integration of the individual communication skills, thoughts, beliefs, customs, values, ethnicity, and race, among others in the social group. In health care, all individuals practice cultural competency through maintaining various elements that include valuing the diversity that exists, adapting to the service deliveries, gaining knowledge on the situation, and being conscious on the dynamics interacted. Lastly, a self-assessment test is always essential to mark the progress of the society.
Being culturally competent is very important in the health care sector. Individuals are encouraged to remain focused on addressing the problems affecting the sector in the society. Education interventions are necessary since they ensure that all individuals gain ample knowledge on how to maintain a positive lifestyle regardless of the health environment in the society.
The culturally appropriate health care and education system are effective since it enlightens individuals in the society on how to maintain a positive lifestyle that would contribute to their success. Education systems are considered to be the most effective methods of enlightening since they are explanatory. The illiterate can identify their mistakes. Successful education systems lead to development in the society (Cavanagh & Chadwick, 2005). All the cultural factors that would have caused adverse effects on the health of individuals should be tracked.
